Design Challenge:

You are to design, build, and program a robotic creature or ghoul.

The creature must:

  • Move about in an interesting way, with three phases ( behavior loops) to its operation .
  • Have one or more gnashing jaws, swinging tails, or flapping wings
  • Make sounds(speech, music, or beeps) while movements are taking place
  • Respond to stimuli such as light, touch, or food. 10 points for each stimulus utilized. (30 maximum).

OPTIONAL:

  • Extra points for non-wheeled walking mechanisms

Goal: The challenge is to design a vehicle that moves forward without using wheels. The secondary goal is to make sure that everything is working, from computers to this site to the NXT.

Rules: You cannot put wheels on the axle in the motor. Everything else is legal. All programming should be done on the NXT brick. Look here for on board programming tips.

STEPS:

  1. Brainstorm possible ideas with your partner
  2. Pick One
  3. Complete Proposal Form( 10%)
  4. Write and diagram your creature's story- should have at least three stages to it ( 10 %)
  5. Build basic chassis ( either wheeled or walking)
  6. Write detailed algorithm for your program.
  7. Build mechanisms for creature.
  8. Write final program- must include story, algorithm, and code(30%)
  9. Dress Up your creature, perfect operation( 40%)
  10. Present your creature to the class(10%)
